One reason residents and Protect Our Homes and Hills are so vigilant about fighting the Esperanza Hills project is because of our devastating experience with the Freeway Complex Fire in 2008. The majority of homes lost or damaged in the fire were in Yorba Linda–surrounding the Esperanza Hills project.
Hills For Everyone, our fiscal sponsor, will be hosting a 10 Year Commemoration Event to honor the losses, the recovery efforts, and what we need to think about moving forward. It’s Saturday and Sunday, November 17th and 18th from 10 AM – 2 PM at the Chino Hills State Park Discovery Center (4500 Carbon Canyon Road, Brea). Download the flyer.
Memorabilia, videos, photographs, posters, and information on fire safety will be available. Fire trucks will be in the parking lot each day thanks to the Brea-Fullerton Fire Department and Chino Valley Independent Fire District.
The highlight is a presentation on Saturday afternoon from 1 – 2 PM by the Nature of Wildworks. They will feature live wild animals and provide information on the animal, how to deter interactions, and what to know about them. This event and parking are free.
Additionally, if you want to sign up for the Hills For Everyone e-newsletter (which goes out once a month and covers more topics than ours do), please consider signing up. That way you’ll be informed on broader issues and will get the Hills For Everyone event notices.
